Style meets warmth in Bassmead Manor Barns

A Cambridgeshire barn wedding with family at the heart of it all

One of the best things about being a Cambridge wedding photographer and videographer is that I’m positively surrounded by beautiful wedding venues! And if you're looking for a unique wedding venue, this Cambridgeshire barn is perfect.

Bassmead Manor Barns’ wrought-iron chandeliers twinkled above us as Andrew and Andrea said their vows. And with its solid oak beams bejewelled in fairy lights, I couldn’t imagine a more romantic setting for this amazing couple’s beautiful wedding.

As an emotional, documentary photographer, it’s important to me that I get to know you on a personal level before your big day. So that when your wedding day comes, it’ll mean as much to me as it does to you. And so when Andrew and Andrea’s day finally came, I couldn’t help but get wrapped up in the emotion of it all. Filled from start to finish with love and laughter, and with heartfelt videos and recordings from absent family members. I felt truly blessed to be a part of it.

Something old, something new

When you’re styling your wedding, finding the balance between style and warmth can often be one of the biggest challenges. But this wedding managed to be both elegantly modern and welcomingly rustic at the same time.

Gold hexagons, eucalyptus and white roses formed the theme of the stationery, the table dressing and the florals. But their stylish modernity was softened by accents of wild and playful gypsophila. The trendy hors d'oeuvres were served on rustic wooden planks. And the sleek, sophisticated white and gold five-tiered wedding cake sat beneath the exposed oak beams of the barn. It was a perfect balance of trend and tradition.

Viola by Wtoo Watters and groomswear by Ralph Lauren

Andrea looked breathtaking in Wtoo Watters’ Viola. Delicate makeup, a sleek back low bun, a cathedral length veil and the intricate figure-hugging gown. They all combined to make sure all eyes were on the bride.

Andrea’s stunning dress paired perfectly with Andew’s oh-so-dapper groomswear by Ralph Lauren, adding a further flourish of modernity to the rustic backdrop of the 300 year old barn.

A day full of laughter, love and heart

I’ll always remember when Andrea was getting ready and a wasp got into the bridal suite. The maid of honour stayed cool as a cucumber (well, almost!), gingerly trying to waft the wasp out the window with the lid of a shoe box! Desperate to keep anyone from getting stung, but also determined not to kill it! It was so funny and so sweet at the same time!

And I absolutely LOVED the dinnertime entertainment from Marshall King. Between courses he jumped between stand-up, singing, and was even Freddie Mercury at one point! Guests were up on their feet, clapping, dancing, singing. I have actually never seen a wedding meal like it before.

But with the joy came poignant sadness. Several of their closest friends, as well as their nephew and brother in law couldn’t make it due to Covid. Their nephew was due to be doing a reading during the ceremony, and unbeknownst to Andrea and Andrew, had recorded it to be played on a projector during the ceremony. The best man also played messages during his speech from other people who couldn’t make it.

In the midst of all the sadness they felt for their absence, Andrew and Andrea were reminded that our loved ones will always be with us. It was such a moving part of the day.

Personal, intimate photography

When you’re choosing a photographer, it’s incredibly important to find someone who understands and shares your values. And I was so lucky to find such kindred spirits in Andrew and Andrea. Their devotion to their family, the value they held in their relationships, and the deep-rooted love they had for each other, all made me feel like I was part of something truly special.

Your wedding day will be one of the most important, intimate days of your lives. And I understand that by choosing me as your photographer, you’ll be entrusting me with something incredibly precious. That’s why I’ll take the time to get to know you, all your lovely little quirks as a couple, what makes you tick, and what makes you you

And I’ll be by your side for the best day of your lives. Putting you at ease, and making you feel confident and comfortable enough to let your guard down and truly be yourselves. Because after all, that’s what will make sure you end up with a wedding gallery and video that you’ll hold dear forever.

Not endlessly repeated poses, but rather little snapshots of your love for each other. Little moments you share when you think no one’s looking. Those moments that will still make your heart flutter in decades to come.
